We picked up a new camera for the trip, and I wanted to see how to post a picture. Here is the result; a shot of some peonies in full bloom in our back yard. The lens on the camera is a 18 - 200 mm, and I wanted to see how it did with a close up (macro) shot. I thought this came out pretty good. This is the original shot -- no cropping or enhancements. If you are interested, the camera is a Canon XTi 10 M pixel SLR. It's been a long time since I had a working SLR. It's kind of like going back to the good old days.

Hello!!!
OK. So here I am nearing the big day (July 6th) and the adventure of a lifetime to start less than a week later. My plan is to keep a diary of our travels, but a blog seems like a good way to keep all informed of how our journey is proceeding. I will be taking lots of pix with my Rebel XTi, and I can post some of them here. In the mean time I still have 17 work days (assuming I can stand to work all five days the week of June 25). In case anyone out there didn't know it, I am not working Fridays for the duration except for 6/29 and 7/6 (my last day). It is starting to sink in that I will no longer be getting up at 5:00 AM and doing the beltway tango. I will miss work, but I won't miss getting up in the dark nor the twice daily commute.
So, check back later for more updates as we get closer to departure day.
